About
About OrthoDocs
OrthoDocs is led by Mr Andrew Thompson, Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. His main clinical focus is lower-limb arthroplasty, including hip and knee replacement and revision surgery. He also sees selected shoulder, elbow, hand, foot and ankle concerns.

About Mr Andrew Thompson
Mr Thompson works with patients and referrers to understand symptoms, review available imaging and explain options in plain language. The aim is to provide practical advice about the likely cause of symptoms and the options that make sense.
Appointments are usually arranged after referral so relevant information can be reviewed before the consultation.
Training and experience
BMedSci (St Andrews), MB ChB (Manchester), MSc (Trauma & Orthopaedics), MRCS, FRACS (Orthopaedic Surgery).
This training background supports careful assessment and practical orthopaedic treatment planning. Advice is tailored to symptoms, examination findings, imaging, general health and practical goals.
Approach to care
Mr Thompson’s approach is to listen carefully, review the available information and explain options in plain language. Surgery is not always the first step. Where surgery is discussed, the expected benefits, limitations, risks and practical recovery issues should be understood before decisions are made.
Non-operative options, further investigation, injections, surgery where appropriate, or referral to another service may be considered depending on the situation.
Spine conditions are not routinely assessed through OrthoDocs and are usually best directed to an appropriate spine service.
